After finishing illustrating the book, Feathers of a Dove, Because We Love, I began to illustrate a fiction young children’s book that a friend of mine, Heather Bowman, wrote.
Otto, the Amazing, Flying Octopus!
Otto was an octopus that was born in a monsoon. When the storm was over, he found himself in Haven Harbor. When he saw Sam, a pelican, flying overhead, he assumed that was his father.
Otto and Sam liked to hang out on the boat, the Bonnie Bella. The crew became like their family. One day a pirate ship, the Rancid Rover, came charging to shore. The crew headed toward the Bonnie Bella and tried to take over. Otto and Sam had a brilliant idea which caused Otto to fly in and save the day!
Here is a sneak peak into the book:
They came to consider both Sam and Otto their own unusual mascots, setting out convenient buckets of water for Otto. Sam would gently slide Otto into a bucket while he went to enjoy his fish from the crew. Otto would float lazily in the bucket, finding pictures in the clouds above him and listening to the laughter.
